As part of South Carolina's celebration, high school chemistry students and their teachers have a unique opportunity to learn about the important role chemistry plays in the preservation of art works located in the City of Charleston, South Carolina. Maria Martin's Sketchbooks and Drawings are in The Charleston Museum and The John C. Calhoun Monument located on Marion Square are subjects that can be studied for the first time on the Internet. "Hands On Activities" provide chemistry teachers with the materials and lesson plans needed to demonstrate how chemicals are used by professional conservators to preserve paper and clean monuments.
